More Deep Throat

The reaction of the right to the revealing of Deep Throat's true identity has been remarkable. Clearly, the right despises Mark Felt and argue that he should not have betrayed Nixon by leaking clues to the Washington Post.

I know there may be people who read my blog, that are not obsessive news junkies like myself. Just trust me when I say that there is so much more going on then I have time or inclination to post on my blog.

So, when I claim the Republican's and right wing are fascist thugs, I'm not just making that up. Time and again there are reports of the right lamenting anything that negatively affects the imperial power of the right. It doesn't matter if it's illegal. It doesn't matter if people die.

An example. If there was clear and convincing proof that Bush committed the United States to war as nothing more than a war of aggression to subjugate Muslims and secure oil fields – the right wing would not have a problem with that. They would applaud it.

In short – when you wonder how Germans could be guilty of killing 6 million Jews, look no further than the right wing of American politics today.

In this case, they actually think it would have been better that Nixon never been found out, impeached, or resigned. They would have preferred that Mark Felt kept his mouth shut and actively support illegal activities, so long as it supports the right wing cause.

Then - they go and wrap it up in religion as justification.

The mainstream media coverage has been especially amusing. I saw G. Gordon Liddy being interviewed ad nauseum, and what was Liddy's perspective? He thinks Felt should have kept quiet. Imagine that.. a man who went to prison for committing a FELONY is upset that somebody opened their mouth to expose their crimes. The nerve of the man!

Does that strike anyone as particularly absurd? For me, if I had been convicted of a felony, I would not have been able to get the job I have now. For Liddy, and other Watergate felons, they get nationally syndicated talk shows and interviews on CNN/FOX, etc.

You can, in fact, do the most incredibly stupid things (many involving prison time), and bounce back… as long as you are a Republican, and thank JEBUS for your salvation and for putting you back on the righteous path.. or some shit like that.

Americablog posted a nice quote from a Christian/right-wing/Republican that sums it up. He even thinks that Mark Felt caused the attacks on 9/11.

Corsi says Felt's revelations led to a series of events, including "the Church committee, the dismantling of America's intelligence system, the weakening of the FBI, the detriment of our ability to catch criminals, including international criminals," and "a web that has made it impossible for the CIA to function and protect us and may even have led to 9/11."
People like Corsi make a living, and a very handsome one at that, by making those sorts of comments that are unbelievably insane. He gets coverage in the media. People believe what he is saying.

Isn’t that remarkable? What is going on in our world today that a person like that can be taken seriously?

And instead of lionizing Felt as a hero, the author contends, the national media should have vilified "Deep Throat" as Corsi feels they did with other whistleblowers such as Linda Tripp, Paula Jones, and Kathleen Willey.
Do you see the disconnect there? If you don’t, you’re a lost cause and the logic functions of your brain are fried… ‘k?

Corsi is essentially saying that innuendo relating to getting a blow job (which is legal by the way) is equivalent to confidential leads given to reporters that suggest the President aiding and abetting a FELONY, and in fact committing a FELONY in doing so.

Mark Felt (FBI) = Linda Tripp ($$$)

Mark Felt kept quiet about his participation of the investigation for 30 years. Those other women were involved solely to get their 15 minutes of fame and make some money. The reason why Corsi and the right wing can equate the two is because they really don’t see the difference. The commitment of their life is to 15 minutes and money as well.

Clearly there is a danger in the United States today. It is far more dangerous than Muslims and airplanes. It must be attacked, and it must be defeated as if our lives depend on it.. as it clearly does.

The agenda of the right wing is to install a fascist dictatorship that is answerable to no one and has absolute unchecked power. The agenda is a white/Christian United States. The agenda is to destroy opposing religions world wide. They seek to impose their religious "values" on all other cultures of the world.

And if you think it would bother Corsi, or the Christian psycho du jour, to setup concentration camps, gas Muslims, and cremate them in ovens, you are sadly mistaken.

What kind of human being could support and participate in the holocaust? Look no further than your own back yard.

My solution? Ignore them.. every last one of them. No more media coverage for religious freaks. No more Pat Robertson interviews. No more James Dobson in the news. No more political candidates running as religious psychos. Do not allow the confirmation of religious freak judges who will somehow find a way to subvert the establishment clause.

The long term solution is to create a culture where religious fanaticism is scorned and scoffed at. If we can manage to create a fully secular society where religious superstition has no influence, then all can be treated equally and fairly.

It is quite true that participation in formal religious activities had been in a steep decline during the latter part of the 20th century. The percentage of people who actively participate in formal religion hovers around 20 percent, yet they have more influence than that number would indicate.

Why? Because "religion" has a positive connotation, hence issues that are framed in religious terms have a better chance of success.

Would I like to see all organized religion in the world dissipate into blood soaked history? Absolutely. We're all human beings, and we all have the same basic core principals. If we could do away with labels and superstitions that segregate us, the world would be much better off..

Finally.. an amusing read on how the nutjobs rationalize dinosaurs and carbon dating here. They actually think Noah took all the dinosaurs onto the ark! Why? Because the bible is the infallible word of God and it says that all the animals went 2 by 2.

Thus, if the Bible is right (and it is!), dinosaurs must have lived within the past thousands of years....

If you remove the evolutionary framework, get rid of the millions of years, and then take the Bible seriously, you will find an explanation that fits the facts and makes perfect sense:
uh huh.. That whole universe being 14 billion years old thing is a cruel hoax.

Face facts. The bible, both new and old testament, is riddle with errors and inaccuracies and out right lies. Therefore, it is NOT the infallible word of God. It's just a blog of people who lived a long time ago.

Sure, you can pick and choose the parts that you agree with.. knock yourself out.. but I think it's amusing that you can think that the parts you choose are really what "God" says is true.

In a sense, I have more respect for the guy who takes every word of the bible literally. No, he can't explain how the velociraptors on the ark didn't eat everything and everybody else, but at least he's not hypocritical about his point of view. He's just crazy is all.

I don't believe the FBI was actually investigating the burglary.

In either case, there are situation where private tips to a reporter are safer..
