Weekend Update

I saw a couple movies over the weekend. First was a new movie called Sin City. It's a comic book adaptation - but it's quite violent and graphic. It's graphic in a stylized sort of way that's nicely done. It's interesting the way that movie directors are able to show violence in a lot of different ways, but at the same time convey that it's not real.

If you're into the "art" of a movie, Sin City has a lot of it. It can be very melodramatic, and very Tarentino-ish (which is usually a good thing), but over-all worth seeing if you're open minded.

There are really terrific performances by Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, and Benicio Del Toro. It's hard to rate it, but I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars I guess.

I also watched Ladder 49 on DVD. It's crap. It's way too long, way too boring, and way too predictable. I've always said that Hollywood should run their scripts through me so I could cross out the stupid and impossible scenes and make the writer re-do it. There were a number of them in this movie.

You can see it coming a mile away. Example; hero wants to do the dangerous "search and rescue" work. His wife is expecting a baby. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know they are going to have an argument about how dangerous that job choice is. Sure enough, she sees him on the news rappelling down the side of a building to rescue some guy. How can she see him do this on tv? Easy - the news media got to the fire before the firemen did. Duh. And there I was thinking that people called the fire department first.

Anyway, there was just so much silly plotting in the movie. If you like fire, it might be worth watching. If you like good movies, it's not. 2 out of 5 stars.

There's not a whole lot going on in politics or the news. I'm waiting for the next BSC freak cause of the day, so we can get a laugh.

Some minor goings on; Tom DeLay is getting in deeper as some Repubs are jumping ship. Shays called him an "embarrassment" and Santorum (of all people) wants DeLay to explain what he's been up to.

Those of us on the left want to DeLay to hang in there until the mid-terms. It helps the Democrats - he's that bad.

The BSC's and Republican's are still threatening judges. Quite a number of the Federal judges have requested security lately. It's not surprising considering you have high profile members of Republican party "wondering" if the recent violence is politically motivated.

I'm still waiting for Cornyn to get reprimanded (at the very least). His explanation was one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. He said he was "taken out of context". Well, I watched the video of his original speech, and read the entire text, and as I posted below, it's all pretty clear.

You have to be a very stupid person to not see that.. unless English is not your first language I guess..

There are other miscellaneous Republican scandals brewing right now (one good one in Ohio), but over-all, it's pretty boring.

** Update **

Facinating thoughts on who is behind the destruction of Tom DeLay. Who does democrats.com think it is? Karl Rove! Why? Terri Schiavo.
