Random Thoughts

I'm feeling a bit better today. I'm guessing I'm at about 85% now, so I should be back to my normal (or abnormal depending on your point of view) self before long.

It's kind of weird the way Bill Clinton has become so chummy with the Bush clan. The Big Dawg (as Clinton is nicknamed by people on the left) seems to be doing a lot of activities with the elder Bush. Now, all three of them are in Rome.

If you look at what Chimpy Bush has said about Clinton over the last few years, it has all been really friendly and positive. Since us worker liberals don't really care that they've become one big happy family, I think we can use that to our advantage. It's going to be difficult for the Bush's to bag on Hillary when she runs for prez in '08.

More news in the story that refuses to die (pun intended), we now know the origin of that memo emphasizing how great the Schiavo case is for Republicans politically. Yes, the scumbag Republican of the day is:

WASHINGTON - Florida Republican Sen. Mel Martinez says an infamous unsigned memo passed around on Capitol Hill emphasizing the politics of the Terri Schiavo case originated in his office.
But does big Mel take responsibility for it? Gosh no! If Republicans are good at anything, it's blaming everyone else. They blamed 9/11 on Clinton, blamed the lack of WMD's in Iraq on bad intelligence, blamed the public for taking "violence on judges" comments out context, and now a memo making a political circus out of a poor woman’s death on a staffer.

"It is with profound disappointment and regret that I learned today that a senior member of my staff was unilaterally responsible for this document," Martinez said.
I like the inclusion of the word "unilaterally". That makes sure we all know Mel had nothing to do with it! Actually, some lefty blogs use the phrase "wanker of the day", and I kind of like that better than Scumbag Republican of the day. It just sounds so much more European. At least the Brits use that word a lot. So, from now on, I'll try to refer to them as wankers. Don't worry though gang, we'll still have our Bat-Shit-Crazy right wing Christian freaks (BSC's)! The wankers will be the ones simply with really bad politics, and over-all dumbass behavior. John Cornyn is a good example. BSC's will be reserved for those that invoke Jesus as the basis of their craziness.

I hope that clears up the terminology I'm going to try and use.. :)

So, how do we know Martinez is a lying wanker?

In his statement, Martinez acknowledged he inadvertently gave Harkin the memo without ever reading it. But he acknowledged his staffer was responsible for both "drafting and circulating" the memo. He did not specify where else the memo was sent.
I give people memos all the time without looking at them first. That's standard practice when you're completely incompetent. Gah.. give us a break Mel. You can make up lies much better than that one.

He said he pulled a one-page document from his coat pocket and handed to Harkin. "Unbeknownst to me ... I had given him a copy of the now infamous memo."
LOL paddle faster Mel..

Isn't it great that all the big ethical wankery in the news always is about Republican's? The Democrats have been keeping clean and are on good behavior. I think we can use that in '08, and bring "integrity" back to the White House and Congress. We can have a "Contract with America"! Having DeLay in jail will help, but I'm not sure he's going to the slam that soon. We'll see.

Moving on to our favorite Wanker-BSC (yes he qualifies for both), it seems the house boys are putting on a half-hearted defense of DeLay, and the Democrats are having fun with it.

Venting anger over attacks against DeLay and other targets, some members of the GOP rank and file criticized Democrats in unusually sharp terms. One, Rep. Bob Ney of Ohio, was quoted by fellow Republicans at a closed-door meeting as calling the head of the House Democratic campaign committee a snake.

Ney disputed that. "I said he was a sneak," he said, referring to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill.
Ohhhh nice one. He's a snake, slithering around looking for innocent prey to swallow whole.

"A snake, a sneak, sounds like Mr. Ney is in a snit," countered Bill Burton, Emanuel's spokesman.
Bahahahah.. That's funny. But, in all seriousness, it's kind of odd how a political party gives up a guy for the slaughter. They have rank and file party punks put on a defensive show for the public, while at the same time the senior guys keep quiet, and lots of "unnamed sources" give the lamb up to the press.

I'd personally like to see DeLay humiliated and put in jail, but politically it is better for the good guys if DeLay survives - just barely. He's an embarrassment, and we want as many of those as possible in the Republican party.

"When politicians, the Republican majority, decides it is above the law, the American people are now seeing that they have a price to pay — at the pump, for their pharmaceuticals, and in the absence of initiatives that would help grow our economy," said Pelosi.
You go gurl! Nancy Pelosi knows what to do and will turn this our direction. Already we start to see the Democratic leadership painting the Republicans as ethically challenged, and explaining the consequences for it. That way American's who might not otherwise care know it affects them too. Nice job! I'd also suggest throwing the name "Nixon" into the mix when discussing ethics issues.

Good news from Connecticut today:

HARTFORD, Conn. - The state Senate easily approved a bill that would make Connecticut the first state to recognize civil unions between same-sex couples without being pressured by the courts.
It's not Massachusetts style same-sex marriage, but it's a step forward. And forward it will go, no need to stop now.

State Sen. John Kissel, ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee, who voted against the legislation, said experience shows that civil unions will just be a temporary answer and advocates will continue to press for gay marriage.

"It's hard to believe that the train, as it rolls down the tracks, is going to stop at this station," said Kissel. "Going down this road has a price to it."
Imagine that, a Republican right on the mark, in at least half of what he said. Civil unions is a step in the process that will lead to equal rights for all Americans. There's no stopping it. Eventually this will all come to conclusion at the U.S. Supreme Court when they strike down the "Defense of Marriage Act". In exactly the way that Loving vs. Virginia struck down laws against inter-racial marriage, so will a lawsuit strike down laws and state Constitution provisions against same-sex marriage.

By the way, has anybody checked on Massachusetts lately? Have the heathen hordes destroyed the state, and ruined families? Are babies still being born there? Hmmmm... seems like same-sex marriage there hasn't ruined the state. Imagine that.

Isn't it amusing how the wealthy and highly educated North Eastern states back same-sex rights, but the (insert clever insult here) *ahem* Southern, and bible-belt States do not?

Speaking of the Dem chances in '08:

WASHINGTON - Two-thirds of Howard Dean's online activists from his 2004 presidential campaign say they don't want Al Gore or John Kerry, the Democratic Party's nominees from 2000 and 2004, to run for president in 2008, a survey found.

Dean, currently chairman of the Democratic National Committee, was still the first choice of the Dean online activists. Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton got the most other support for a 2008 run, with Kerry and Gore far behind, according to the survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press. Dean has said he will not run for president in 2008.
Barack Obama will be the first black President of the United States. He needs about 8 years of seasoning first though. If we lose in '08, Barack would be a good pick for '12. John Edwards is very electable, and I think he would make a fine President. I disagree with him on a few issues, but he's charismatic, and a white guy, which always helps when running for President. Still, my first pick is Hillary Clinton. If nothing else it would be an exciting campaign. Edwards vs. Jeb Bush would be a bore fest.

Iraq has a new President:

After taking office, new interim President Jalal Talabani, a Kurdish leader, pledged to fight the country's insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives since Baghdad fell to U.S.-led forces on April 9, 2003.
One of the interesting "conspiracy theories" that had been floating around the net a while back is that the Kurd's had been holding Saddam and worked a deal with the U.S. Government to hand him over. In fact, one of the soldiers on the raid to capture Saddam completely contradicted the "spider hole" discovery and all that jazz. The internet is rife with half truths and stupid theories -but- it's interesting that a Kurd is the new Iraqi President, when the Kurds are a minority in the country. Very very interesting.

An oh yes, American soldiers continue to die in Iraq, and nobody seems to notice. But, when the Pope comes to the natural end of his long life, the world stops, and American Presidents, past and present, drop everything and high tail it to Rome.

Isn't that weird?

Looks like that's all for now....

** Update **

AmericaBlog has a huge list of right wing blogs and pundits being made fools of. Here's a few examples.

Rush Limbaugh (not a blogger, but I had to add this blowhard):
"Truth Detector: Supposed GOP Schiavo Memo Forged by Democrats."

Michelle Malkin:
I suspect that no one at the Post or ABC News still believes the amateurish, unsigned, misspelled memo was circulated by Republican Party leaders..... Will ABC News officials continue to stonewall, as Dan Rather et al. so famously did just a few months ago? Or will they come clean and promptly issue a correction?

The Washington Times:
Story dated yesterday entitled "Was the Schiavo memo a fake?"
Sen. Robert F. Bennett, Utah Republican, said the issue "stinks" of a news fabrication similar to the one that engulfed CBS anchorman Dan Rather during the 2004 presidential campaign,
Go see the AmericaBlog list if you want a nice political laugh at the expense of all the crazy people.
