Terry Ratzmann, a buttoned-down churchgoer known for sharing homegrown vegetables with his neighbors, walked into the room and police said he shot 22 bullets from a 9 mm handgun within a minute.First off, this is yet another senseless tragedy. Seven people dead, and other's critical in the hospital.
That said, I wonder if those killed were rapture ready?
The Charlotte, N.C.-based Living Church of God is a denomination that grew out of a schism in the Worldwide Church of God, formed in 1933, and focuses on "end-time" prophecies.I wouldn't be surprised if this psycho's actions are not interpreted as yet another sign of the apocalypse, rather than the horrific acts of some deranged lunatic with a gun.
This year, the group's leader, Dr. Roderick C. Meredith, wrote that events prophesied in the Bible are "beginning to occur with increasing frequency." The church has an estimated 6,300 members in 40 countries.
A practical matter to consider:
Dorothy Hodzinski hit the floor and Gerald Miller, a delivery truck driver, threw his arm over her as they lay together, she told WISN-TV in Milwaukee.Praying isn't going to stop a bullet. Praying isn't going to make a damn bit of difference when you're being shot at.
"He tried to protect me," she said. "I said, 'Gerry, I think you better start to pray.'"
Apparently there were some 50 people attending. I wonder why they cower and wait to get shot? All it would take is a couple of people to rush him, or even one from behind. Certainly taking your chances that way is better than waiting to get shot.
Finally.. this quote:
Ratzmann was not known to have threatened anyone and had no criminal record, police said. Waukesha County supervisor Andrew Kallin, who led the vigil, could only offer a prayer. If she thinks The Lord had anything to do with yet another middle aged white guy going on a shooting rampage, she's crazier than I thought.
"The Lord works in mysterious ways."
John Lennon really was right. Imagine.. if we did away with all religion, there would be nothing to kill or die for. Would God get pissed? Somehow, I highly doubt it.

Tom,
This one hit a little close to home and is on the television here 24-7. On the day it happened they gave it 3.5 hours of full coverage...on the scene. They showed frightened kids looking out of their hotel windows...there for a hockey tourney and some swimming pool fun.
So two recent news worthy events for my students to debate in our current Crime and Violence unit, this and the guy who shot the Chicago judge's husband and mother. How interesting that the newspapers are taking the place of my textbook.
When questioning the teens about how they would react in this situation...75% of the guys said they would have interfered..."Why didn't anyone tackle him while he took the time to change clips??", they wondered. "I would have thrown the organ at him...ya know that your body becomes increasingly strong when your fear is pumping." "According to the diagram, they had no organ." "Well then, I guess I'd throw my own organ's at him!"
Next time we have an "emergency situation" drill I'm gonna see who jumps in the front of the doorway!!!
