Goosestepping for Jesus

The seminar was led by Raul Justiniano, the Bolivian president of the Confederation of Ibero-American Communicators (COICOM), NRB's Latin American counterpart. Like a counter-revolutionary version of Che Guevara, the goateed Justiniano laid out his three-year plan to "invade" Latin American cities one by one by establishing cells in local churches and spreading outwards to "take possession of all parts of the city."

I have this natural instinct to give organized religion the benefit of the doubt. I keep having these mental flashes from when I was a child, and we went to Catholic mass. I didn't understand most of it, but it seemed very benign and kind.

It really makes it difficult for me to grasp the reality of what the Christian right wing is doing. Just listen to the words that come out of their mouth. They say exactly what they are doing.

They are pushing a religious agenda to culturally change the life you lead. They are pushing their religion with the goal of gaining political control. They are attacking other religions - quite literally. The United States is warring only with Muslim nations. The war was pushed by Christian Evangelicals.

It really is difficult to think this could be dangerous - but if the brainwashing of this country continues apace for another 20 years, I wouldn't be surprised to see the New Crusades.

Does that sound really paranoid? When Army Generals say things like this, it makes me wonder who really controls the military.

Discussing the battle against a Muslim warlord in Somalia, Boykin told another audience, "I knew my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol."

"We in the army of God, in the house of God, kingdom of God have been raised for such a time as this," Boykin said last year.

On at least one occasion, in Sandy, Ore., in June, Boykin said of President Bush: "He's in the White House because God put him there."

That General is fighting the New Crusade. Is he not? How many others are doing the same, but keeping quiet.
