Dear Mary?

Cheney

If you watched the Cheney/Edwards debates on t.v. before the election, you might have seen Edwards comment on Mary Cheney. The whole issue was hypocrisy. The Administration wanted to amend the Constitution to discriminate against gay people, and Dick Cheney has a gay daughter that works on his campaign.

All John Edwards did was say that the Cheney's must love their daughter. The implication being, "how could people that love their gay daughter never want to see her married or treated equally and respectfully"? As usual, a Democrat was right on target. As usual, the Republican's cry foul and twist it.

So - the BSC's went crazy. How dare John Edward invade Mary Cheney's personal life! I remember hearing Mrs. Cheney going off on a huge tirade over what Edwards said.

Forget about the issue of hypocrisy, which in the end was what it really was all about. Mary is getting her own groove on now.

That's right. Mary Cheney is getting a 1 million dollar advance on her new book deal. I guess it's not such a private life after all, is it?

I'm sure a lot of gay people wonder how Mary Cheney could seemingly turn on her own community and support her father and the Republican party in their attempt to write her second class citizenship into the Constitution. I expect reality is a bit more nuanced than that. I'm sure she either knew, or was told, that the FMA was never going to pass, and they were never really going to push it. It was simply a tool to get the religious freaks fired up. It worked.

I would imagine Mary was willing to put up with some bad mouthing of herself as a lesbian from her own party, just so long as they won the elections because she had a goal bigger than equal rights. Yes, boys and girls, Mary was onboard the Republican agenda. Yes, Mary wanted money.....

Interviewed in a New York Times article last August about Ms. Cheney, Ms. Matalin was quoted as saying, "There are other reasons to be politically active besides your sexual orientation. That is not her raison d'etre."
sing it with me.. muny muny muny munA - Money!

So, now the Republican party is embarrassed by Mary. The religious freaks condemn her to hell. The gay community thinks she's a traitor. Poor - poor Mary. Well, that's what you get for being a gutless shill. You don't stand up for anything and nobody will stand up for you.

I just love that picture..

See Dick Cheney. See Dick surrounded by lesbians. See Dick

Dick was probably there because he thought he might see some girl-on-girl action. Then his wife could write about it!
