An excerpt -
Usually the blogger has little protection. "In most states," said Gregg M. Lemley, a St. Louis labor lawyer, "if an employer doesn't like what you're talking about, they can simply terminate you."Yow.. When I created my blog and started spewing my views of the world, I never though there could be any way possible I might be jeopardizing my job.
Would anybody think that's possible? I had just assumed that people are protected by first ammendment rights.
It would seem that most of the people that are fired had written something negative about their workplace. I don't write about mine much (except just a little while ago below), but I certainly have nothing to complain about.
Just in case my employer or anybody related is reading.. I really dig my job. It's the best I ever had - and why I moved all the way to Texas. I love you all - promise.. Can I get you some coffee?
Anyway.. I just find it pretty unbelievable that a person could be fired for their own personal blog that they do on their own, and which describes what's going on in their life. If I was sitting on a Jury for one of those fired employees suing their employer, I'd give them every cent they ask for.
I think that's a very un-American thing to do... Forget free speech in this country.. it's not free, it can cost you dearly.
