"The government of Saudi Arabia can demonstrate its leadership in the region ..."
The government of Saudi Arabia is a corrupt monarchy, yet Bush does not say anything about democracy for the Saudis. Why? Do their people not deserve "freedom" the same as any other Arab nation?
As I've posted before, the Bush's have a 30+ year business relationship with the royals in Saudi Arabia.
Bush's pet project, social security reform, is a dead issue. It'll never pass, and that's a good thing.
Jesse says:The whole social security reform program is a red herring. There is no crises, and Bush's numbers don't add up. Everyone knows that.
If Peter Orzag's calculations are correct in this New York Times article, in the first 20 years of privatization, it would cost $4.5 trillion dollars to shore up a system projected to run a $3.4 trillion deficit over 75 years. Bush wants to commit the government to an unnecessary extra $1.1 trillion of spending that will still result in my benefits getting cut when I retire.
I think what we have here is a lame duck President.
