Tom, Great Rush tune...see it just goes to show you...they can touch any topic. And on the hero theme...Everyone has different eyes...to see with alternate views. You may be a hero to someone...and never even know it! (Still can't figure out how to put up the links to songs...but you do it nicely) Thanks for the Song of the Day!
I'm going to write up more about Rush either today or tomorrow (soon anyway).. and I'll post more Rush music. I'll post some really amazing songs that most people never heard on the radio and such.
but I can tell you how to post songs like I'm doing. It's pretty easy.
#1. You have to have a web site to store the song, the last one is hero.mp3 and I put it (ftp) on my personal web site located at http://t.hackett99.home.comcast.net/mus/hero.mp3
#2. Create a file with a .m3u extension - my last one is called hero.m3u I created that file with notepad and saved it in a directory on my hard drive that I use for all the songs I prepare for my blog. There is one line of text in the hero.m3u file, and it points to the hero.mp3 file. The text is - http://t.hackett99.home.comcast.net/mus/hero.mp3
exactly like that. just that http address. That hero.m3u file redirects to the mp3 file and starts streaming it. You can test if you got it right by double clicking on the hero.m3u file. It should launch your mp3 player and stream the song off your web site. Remember, the m3u file is a file type associated with your mp3 player, so to edit it, right click on the file name and do the "open with" and select notepad.
#3. upload the m3u file to your web server. I put it in the same location as I put the mp3 file - http://t.hackett99.home.comcast.net/mus/hero.m3u
#4. create the entry in your blog. I can't show you the exact html because the comments system thinks it's html and not just text, but what you do is type out the string of text and insert the http link to the m3u file. I typed - I'm nobody's hero.. are you? Then I highlighted - nobody's hero - and selected the "insert link" button, and for the address I put the link to the m3u file.
You can use that as an example of how to do your blog entry. Just substitute your web address and song name, and the text that you want to appear on the blog.
#5 publish your blog.. viola.. streaming audio for your readers.
I'm listening to more older Rush while writing this up. I have to admit, I was a bit of a Rush snob during the 90's, not liking a lot of their newer stuff. I'm a more mature listener now, and I think the new stuff is brilliant also. It really grew on me..
Anyway... that's how you do it.... oh.. and I'm not positive, but I don't think you should have spaces in the file names. I copy and rename the mp3 file before I upload it to my web site. If you have a problem, let me know. and I just copy the m3u file when I post a new song, and change the song name in the text, and then upload it to my web site instead of creating it from scratch each time. I have to remove older songs from my web site when I post new ones, but that's okay. Better to keep just a couple songs on there at a time - for obvious reasons.
That is so NICE of you...but it just gave me a huge headache and I only read it!
For now, I shall just enjoy your tunes. Keep picking the good ones. And I pick the Patriots...by 17 (the age of my high school students)...Bud has the best commercial...with an animal (they are all animals), and if I win you can compose an article that lists the pros/cons of paying taxes...Next weeks unit in my American Public Policy class, that I share and ask for written student responses! Have a great Night
