WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Viagra, the blockbuster impotence drug, will be paid for under Medicare's new prescription drug coverage, officials said on Tuesday.Things are gonna get a might randy around the retirement home..
From Kos, we learn the non-partisan General Accounting Office says:
Today's Fiscal Policy is UnsustainableHo.. hum.. just another story of Bush and the Rethugs ruining our country. How about we bring back Bill Clinton? You remember him? The guy that had us running billions in surplus and was paying down the debt, instead of wracking up new trillions in debt.
Simply put, our nation's fiscal policy is on an unsustainable course. As long-term budget simulations by GAO, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), and others show, over the long term we face a large and growing structural deficit due primarily to known demographic trends and rising health care costs. Continuing on this unsustainable fiscal path will gradually erode, if not suddenly damage, our economy, our standard of living, and ultimately our national security. Our current path also will increasingly constrain our ability to address emerging and unexpected budgetary needs.
Let the media feeding frenzy begin. This will get more media coverage than 250,000 dead Asians - I guarantee.
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Michael Jackson (news) returned to court Tuesday for a second day of jury selection in his child molestation trial and was greeted by a small group of fans. From the whoops files
SALT LAKE CITY - After rushing to write a ban on gay marriage into the state constitution, Utah legislators are stepping back to repair some of the damage the law could deal other kinds of domestic partners.Isn't that hysterical? They meant to only harm gay people with the amendment, but in their stupidity, also harmed hetros. Can't have that!
Taken literally, Utah's provision could deny hospital visitation or survivor's property rights to children being brought up by grandparents, or to senior citizens who live together but do not marry for financial reasons. Siblings living in the same household also could find themselves without customary rights.
Utah's Legislature - overwhelmingly Republican and Mormon, and one of the most conservative bodies in the nation - ignored warnings from the state's Republican attorney general that the amendment went too far. Utah voters ratified it with 66 percent approval in November.
If you really want to know me, one thing I should make clear. I despise homophobes, and that includes most organized religions. I despise Mormons. I despise Catholics. I despise Southern Baptists, and I guess I could go on listing religions, mostly Muslim and Christian. I'm talking about institutional religions, not necessarily those who are members.
The hard part is associating with somebody who strongly identifies with a particular religious institution, but does not share in that institutions hatred. I'm very conflicted about that. For example, if you support the Catholic church, then you're sending the message that you don't mind that they shuttled abusive priests from parish to parish and effectively hid felons from prosecution. You don't mind that your religious organization hates gays. You don't mind that part of your tithe goes to paying off lawsuits. I appreciate a person who is spiritual, and enlightened. I just have a hard time associating with people who support evil institutions.
You remember years ago, on Saturday Night Live, Sinead O'Conner tore up a picture of the pope? I was as shocked as anyone. I now have a pretty good idea why she did that, and I'm not the least bit bothered by it now. It's not about the man. It's about the organization. It's about the policies. It is about laying most every horror throughout man's history at the feet of organized religion.

You are quite right.. and obviously 53 some odd million American's don't care.
Is it that those 53 million don't care or that they are so bombarded with the politics of division and scare tactics, that they can't understand what the real consequences are?
When so many "ordinary" citizens are struggling to make ends meet and still have some kind of quality of life with their families, few have time to actually understand what the reality is. Rather, we are submerged with divisive talking points and distracted by religious morality ploys.
The key is getting out and reminding people that we are all in this thing called democracy together and we will all (save for the corrupt, thieving, lying politicians and their corporate cronys) either sink or swim together.
Excuse me boys, but are all of those little old men at the retirement home on the golf course gonna still be receiving their Viagra when I retire? And will they not be such Little Old Men any more! ha ha
