Sports news of the day

Johnson

I thought for a while about what my first real post should be. I looked at the front page of yahoo news, scrolled down a bit, and of course - there it is.

Randy Johnson traded from Arizona to New York!

"Arizona will receive pitchers Javier Vazquez and Brad Halsey, catcher Dioner Navarro and $9 million for the 41-year-old left-hander. "

So there we have it. The best left handed pitcher to ever play the game is sent to the Yankees for 3 guys I've never heard of. I can't imagine Arizona contending again for a very long time. I used to have a split of a season ticket when I lived in Phoenix, and I went to the Division Series, League Championship Series, and World Series, when the D-Backs beat the Yankees for the title in 2001. We were used to them going to the playoffs every year. Sure, they bought the title with a bunch of high priced veterans, but Arizona had never won a major sports championship to that point. It was glorious.

It will be a long time before they see one again. Now I live in Dallas. American League baseball? Yech..
