Roid Rage

It looks like baseball is finally coming to terms with steroid abuse. Sort of..

A first positive test would result in a suspension of up to 10 days and the penalties would increase to a one-year suspension for a fourth positive test, a high-ranking team official said on condition of anonymity.
See something wrong with this picture? The league is only concerned with the perception of the fans. It's not a secret that Mark McGuire, Sammy Sossa and Barry Bonds have been very good for the game, and brought renewed fan interest. Sure, but they were roided out freaks. They cheated.

But, because results are what matters, and success at all costs is the American way, it doesn't matter that they cheated. There will be no asterisk next to their names in the record books. Bonds will likely be in the hall of fame some day.

If the sport had any integrity at all, none of those players would be allowed to play, all mention of their names would be stricken from the books, and they would have life-time bans.

Pete Rose was banned for life for gambling on the Reds, even though what he did on the field was what striving for excellence is all about. Those other knuckleheads tainted the purity of the American game - and nothing..
