Quote of the Day

From Andrew Sullivan, political pundit:

I think the anti-war left's failure to believe in democracy is a greater failing than the pro-war right's failure to grapple with some of the serious failings of the endeavor. But I hope today that everyone, whatever their view of the war or occupation, can rejoice in the defeat of evil and terror. It's truly inspiring.
He's going on and on about the Iraq elections. Juan Cole has a sensible rebuttal.

But, the thing that always irritates me about Sullivan is that while he applauds the "democratization" of Iraq, he wasn't there, didn't get put in a body bag, and didn't come home in a coffin.

I think that's the problem with wealthy people. Their mind is centered on the glorious prize, and they don't think about, or have anything to do with, the price. It's easy to pay lip service to "the sacrifice" when you're still alive to write the words.
