The long weekend was very lazy. First, lets check my football predictions.
I picked the Giants over the Steelers. Did you watch that game? Amazing. The Giants had two chances to win on field goals, and their kicker missed them both. I think the first was 47 yards, at the end of regulation, and a 42 yarder in over time. The Giants really had no reason to even have that chance except for some really bad turn-overs from the Steelers. I think the Giants scored 3 points total on offense? But.. the Steelers were just horrible.
I feel bad for NY. The Giants had over achieved and to have it all lost because of a kicker? The kicker has way too much influence on the outcome of a football game. Consider that you have 22 world class athletes on the field, running, hitting, passing, catching. You have all of that for nearly 60 minutes, and you turn the game over to some 165 pound ex soccer player to win or lose.
That's just wrong. What they need to do is change the points awarded for a field goal to 2. That will lessen the importance of the kicker, and will lead to more 2 point conversion tries after a touch down.
Can you imagine that kicker in the locker room after the game? He missed 2 field goals to win the game. I'll bet if you took him out on the field after the game and had him kick 10 field goals from 45 yards, he'd hit all 10 easy. But that's what sports is about right? Some guys are Michael Jordan, and some guys are Bill Buckner. That kicker has to feel like a grounder just rolled between his legs.
Other games - Falcons beat the snot out of the Rams. I don't expect to see the Rams back in the playoffs next year. The Eagles beat the Vikings without breaking much of a sweat. The big shocker was the Patriots defense just humiliating the Colts.
Lets see, I went 2 and 2. I really wish NY had won so I could have come off as some sort of football prognosticator.. but no.. the kicker had to suck.
The conference finals will match the Falcons vs. the Eagles, and the Patriots vs. the Steelers. My picks;
I'll take the Eagles over the Falcons. Once again I'm using the "you can't fail ALL the time" method for my pick, which almost worked last time. The Eagles have been flirting with the big trip for a long time, this time they get it.
Next, I like the Patriots over the Steelers. The Pittsburgh quarterback is a rookie, and he's going to play like one.
