I'm Still Alive

Holy lack of updates, Batman.  So here's the news...

I had a sleep study done and got results this morning. I do have obstructive sleep apnea in the mild to moderate range. I'm having 9 apneas per hour and my blood O2 bottoms out at 84%. The doc says it's not severe enough to need a CPAP machine, but rather an oral appliance that keeps the airway open while sleeping. Now I need to make an appointment with a dentist to get fitted. I consider this good news as it's most likely the explanation of why I'm constantly exhausted and have headaches. It may also resolve the ringing in my ears, which would be awesome. I had always thought that it was only heavy set guys that had that problem, but seems not. Even a fit person could have the issue if their anatomy is configured a certain way, which mine apparently is.

In other news, I was contacted earlier this week by the company that picked up the VA contract I've worked on since 2007, and had an interview with them yesterday afternoon. They had asked me up front what kind of money it would take for me to leave MegaCorp, and I threw out an absurd number and they said that was fine. The offer sheet is coming in a few hours. I'm pretty sure I'm going to take it as I'd like to continue on with what I've been working on. I'm just not a big fan of changing jobs frequently, but it's been 12 years so I think it's time. I had told MegaCorp a year ago that I was underpaid and they gave me something like a 5k raise, while claiming it was the best they could do under the organization rules. They're going to keep bleeding talent until they learn basic economics.

It's a $25k raise.. wheeeeeeee...

Oh.. and I hear from Kris that Doug is running for Congress after the encouraging 5th place finish he had in running for city council.

bahahahhahaha

It's nice to know you haven't expired.

I had thought of that possibility quite a while ago, so I wrote a good-bye world post a couple years ago and dated it for the future. I just move the post date out when it gets close. Of course, if I forget to do that then it might appear that I've expired.. oh well.. lol

In recent goings on since your last post I beefed up my PC to a 4770K and went to see Steven Wilson's current tour (was pretty sweet).

I'm thinking about turning a "Sorry that's the best we can do" into a 14% raise w/ another company as well.

But to be fair, the best they could do was still close to 12% raise in the first place. But 12% of nothing aint quite good enough. But 14% of 12% of nothing... well now we're gettin somewhere.

Anyway, glad you're well, or at least not dead. Granted I knew you weren't dead cause the death post never came up. I remember you talking about it years past.

Keep us posted on the medical condition, we're all hopeful that someday you can make a full recovery.

Just letting you know, since you knew of him, Loki passed away Saturday Morning. He went in for a routine surgery. They were going to put two stints in near his collar bone. Blood clot formed, dislodged, went straight to the brain, and cause a massive stroke. He was in his late fifties. Blessings, Doug. P.S. Congressional campaign suspended. Local money recruited me, learning of me through the congressional run, for something that I can be a part of that will be more effective against leftism than being a lone voice in Congress. Why be one voice in Congress when I can create thousands more voices like mine?

Thanks for the message, Tom. Stay on target. Keep busy. Life has many wonders still waiting for you. All you have to do is discover them.

Blessings,

Doug

Tom, good to hear from you on Political Pistachio. I approved it. The pic you like was one of the times I was on Fox News. I've been on Fox News, Al Jazeera America, CNN, MSNBC (though they never aired it), NPR, One America News, and a variety of local outlets. On Fox News I've been on Hannity twice, and Fox and Friends twice. In the case of the pic you referred to, that was Fox and Friends, and I had already gone through the gauntlet and didn't realize my tie was off-center. Same wardrobe as when you used to give me hell, you just judged before long ago off of a small piece of what I wear or own without considering there was more than what you saw. You ought not assume. I am a pretty simple person, so I don't really worry too much about the stuff I own like you do. I have no reason to impress, or try to make people think I am more than I am. That said, I do have nice things because sometimes it is important to ensure you look as professional as you can. . . not because I care so much, but because the situation calls for it.

You used to give me hell about me being a little chubby. You know, it's funny. Back problems keep me from working out. I was injured a little over a year ago to make the back problems worse. I began gaining size in 2005 as I headed into my 40s. Funny thing is, I used to be a marathon runner when I was a young man. Varsity lettered two years running cross-country in High School. Ran track and played baseball, too. Those are days long gone, but my wife loves me as I am, and my six grandkids think grandpa's the most comfortable seat in the house. LOL. So, I really don't care if you want to make jabs at me about my weight as you used to. It has never bothered me. I am very happy with who I am.

You are always in my prayers. I think about you every once in a while, hoping you are safe. God has plans for you. It was truly a pleasure seeing that you are still around alive and kicking. Plenty is on the horizon, and I hope you are game to go for it. I believe in you.
