Unrelenting Assault

Digby, being the insightful person she is, explains the "enthusiasm gap" pretty well. At least it's the best I've seen, and well worth reading.

I know this because I get emails every day from people who were deeply engaged asking me how I continue to do this every day because they just can't stand to even turn on the TV. Seriously, I've had dozens of notes saying this and many of my friends feel the same way. And when you are on the defensive all the time and you don't see any progress and you feel that politics is a scary freakshow, it's actually the sane thing to do. I think it may be the people like me who are crazy.

I used to watch the political cable shows.. the MSNBC ones and even some Faux shows. Glenn Beck was always fun for a laugh. I don't watch any of them anymore, and I won't even leading up to the elections. I'm so over that whole thing because it's such a joke..

The Loon Brigade will never stop. They will do to every elected Democrat what they did to Bill Clinton, and it doesn't matter in the least whether the accusations are true are not.

Just look at Doug.. Obama is a "socialist".. a "marxist".. he's not even eligible to be president.. and on and on and on and on.. every day.. over and over.. the same arguments rewritten slightly differently. That is how they wear everyone down over time.

What I'm arguing for now.. well.. an analogy.. you're playing tug-of-war.. and you're pulling with all your might, but you're slipping.. slipping.. just let go of the fucking rope. Watch what happens.

I'm suggesting that metaphorically, Liberals let go of the rope and just go quiet.. for quite a while. If we honestly believe that our policy views make much more sense, let the Loon Brigade run everything (again) and for a long time. We saw during the '08 elections how the nation despised Bush and actually elected a black guy with a muslim-y sounding name. That's how much they despised the Republicans.

Let go of the rope and let the Republicans do whatever they want. No Democratic opposition. If you're a Democratic Congressman, either don't vote on bills or vote for the Republican legislation. Approve every one of their appointments. It'll hurt bad on jobs with life-time appointments.. but you have to completely let it go.

If we don't let everything crash and burn, we're going to have this non-functioning system for a very long time. The Republicans will never let up the assault, lying their asses off the entire time. Truth and lies don't matter. What matters is the fatigue.

Let them run it all for a good 20 years or so, and just see what happens. It could be quite glorious.
