Raping for Christ

LITHONIA, Ga. — Over the last two decades, Bishop Eddie L. Long has built a religious and financial empire from scratch, transforming a small, faltering church into a modern cathedral with one of the largest and most influential congregations in the country.

Bishop Long and Laura Bush listening to Coretta Scott King in 2002 at an annual service honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Today, Bishop Long’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Church includes a multimillion-dollar network of charities and businesses, a private school and the Samson’s Health and Fitness Center, where he holds court and pumps iron with young people.

Four former members of a youth group he runs have accused him of repeatedly coercing them into homosexual sex acts, and of abusing his considerable moral authority over them while plying them with cash, new cars, lodging and lavish trips.

I think it's safe to assume that anyone who goes on and on and on about the evils of Teh Gay do so only because their twisted psyche knows no other way to keep from googling the nearest gay bath house.

You simply have assume that anyone in a religious "leadership" position is evil in one way or another. If their job description includes the adjective "mega" in it, it's a safe bet that your children are not safe around them.

.....

Which reminds me.. we were driving down the north Texas tollway last week, and passing not far by the apartment I had when I first moved to Dallas. A few miles away is a "mega-church", known as Six Flags over Jesus. I was startled because with my new and improved vision, I could see the crucifix off in the distance that I had never noticed before in the countless times I had driven past the same spot.

I moved here in 2002. I remember seeing the church.. and somebody told me it could seat 75,000 people... which, of course, means there are at least 75,000 very crazy people in and around the Plano Texas area.

....

Look at the picture. There's a woman there who thinks something supernatural is going on when that asshole puts his hand on her head. He's just doing his job, which is to bring in a lot of money. I feel bad for her. How awful must a person's life be to think that having some jackass put his hand on their head is going to do something other than pass a communicable disease?

Those mega churches are genuinely terrifying to see in the flesh, it's like a being at a Beetles tour venue in the 60's.

I once visited the Willow creek mega church in Chicago when I was 16. It was the single largest event of mass brain washing I'd ever born witness to.

and he fought against gay marriage...thing is he can win, lose, pay the price or buy them off and people will still fork over to him keeping him a very rich man. I'm not so sure they would believe it even if he were performing oral right there in the pulpit.
