Two in five Democratic voters either consider themselves unlikely to vote at this point in time, or have already made the firm decision to remove themselves from the 2010 electorate pool. Indeed, Democrats were three times more likely to say that they will "definitely not vote" in 2010 than are Republicans.
This enormous enthusiasm gap ... seems to make passing legitimate health care reform an absolute political necessity for Democrats. This polling data certainly should be something for Congressional leadership to consider, as they move along the legislative path.
Fact is, nobody really likes the GOP. Their numbers are dismal, but the Loon Brigade is very active. There's a good chance they'll pick up quite a few seats, but I highly doubt they'll get either chamber back. The problem is the Democrats, of course. They simply won't deliver in any meaningful way, and Obama is awful when it comes to actual policy.
Living in Texas, there's really no point in my voting. I have less interest in doing so now, as it's obvious that it makes no difference. The Republican agenda is to oppose anything the Democrats try to do, regardless what it is, and dismantle every government program, even if it works.
And as I've said many times, it really is okay with me if we want to destroy what's left of the middle class and the poor. Grandma can live in a park and eat cat food, because there's no Social Security, or Medicare. It's not my grandma.
If they want to eliminate all payroll taxes, fine. That's just more money for me, and if they want to implement a flat tax, great, our taxes plummet while the rest of the country pays a lot more.
It's just my sense of empathy that thinks it's all a bad idea. I don't mind paying more in taxes. I don't see a problem kicking in a few bucks more so other people can get decent health care.
However, if the rest of America wants to sit by while we improve the situation for more wealthy Americans, that's their own fault.. isn't it? After all, you can't be rich if most everyone else isn't poor.

Andrew Sullivan comments on that polling data. He says;
The base is frustrated by Obama's governing moderation in DailyKos's new poll:
The poll was not of the Dirty Fucking Hippies. It was a poll of "Democrats". Why does Sullivan always feel the need to try and reframe any discontent in the Democratic party as the left equivalent of the Palin Conservatives?
And as he always, Andrew has to cast disdain on his imagined DFH's that are trying to sway Obama to do *gasp* what he said he was going to do during the campaign.
Naturally, Sullivan only reveres the "center", where he lives in superiority to the Dirty Fucking Hippies he's always despised, and the Conservatives that despise him. He must be in heaven with a President who is trying to live there too.. because we know having no real principles is better than actually taking a stand and doing what was promised.
What a fuckin' tool.
