Amazing

Saw on the teevee today that Karem Abdul-Jabbar was recently diagnosed with leukemia. I watched an interview he did with Keith Olberman, and apparently the treatment today is radically different than just 5 years ago. Short of a bone marrow transplant, the disease could be very fatal. Today, Jabbar can take medication that treats the condition as a manageable but chronic condition.

There are two very different aspects to the pharmaceutical industry. The business side of it can be very destructive to the poor and middle class as they radically over-charge for medications. The other side of it is that some very smart scientists are discovering fantastic life saving treatments all the time.

And no.. big pharma profits and scientific discoveries are not directly related.

Remember knee high socks and short shorts? Advances happen in the apparel business as well..
