I probably seem schizophrenic in the way that I might defend Obama from a right wing freak.. and then claim here that he's doing an awful job.
The distinction is that the freaks are simply making up bullshit out thin air, and that needs to be smacked down. However, the reality of what Obama is actually doing points directly to a complete failure of a President.
Obama truly is the Andrew Sullivan of US Presidents. Simply awful.
....
Still, there's a lot to be optimistic about... when considered from the Darwinian Nation point of view. During the Bush administration, I was horrified by the incompetence, the death and destruction. Somehow I felt personally touched by the whole mess that is a Conservative government. I thought I would be personally affected in the positive by the election of a Liberal President, but I was wrong about that.
Sure... getting DOMA repealed would be nice. It's obvious now Obama was lying about that. The whole issue of "gay rights" is more about the affirmation of a class of people as being simply as human as anyone else. The real effect of the politics isn't that huge of a deal to me, but I recognize it is for others.
So.. now that I've divested myself of any particular personal investment in politics, I can sit back and watch and not get overly worked up by either success or failure, because it's never me that ends up the victim of bad politics. It is funny, though, to see the right wing freaks so obsessed by the whole thing.. which is natural because they really do believe that if their side doesn't "win" politically, their god is going to get taken away from them.
It's a nice freedom to be able to say that Barack Obama is a horrible President. It's more than just bad policy, but he's once again setting back the cause of classical Liberalism. What he is doing, and failing at, is not Liberal, but the right wingers can claim it is and claim it's a failure.
I guess what's good for the goose.. yadda yadda.. because I've said in the past that the right wingers would try and claim that Bush wasn't really a "Conservative" President, but they're not allowed to do that. They can say that we can't claim that Obama isn't a Liberal. The difference is, when Bush was in office, you never heard a peep from the Loons. Conversely, there's a lot of Liberal opposition to Obama brewing, and it's only going to increase.
We'd be much better off if Dennis Kuccinich had won.. and be "we", I'm referring to everyone who ends up getting fucked over by the combined forces of Bush and Obama. Then there's rest of us who do better when things are more fucked up.
