“A public option at the forefront really does put the government in a disproportionate position with respect to the industry,” - President Olympia Snowe
You mean, the industry that has been fucking Americans for decades now?
I still sorta think it's weird the way a massively profitable industry is able to cajole public officials into preventing anything that benefits the American public at the cost of their profits.
Well.. I guess it's not weird. After all, rule #1 is that sex rules the world. The 2nd rule is that once you're getting enough tail, money trumps all else. Empathy probably doesn't make the top 100.

I kind of like this "opt out" idea. If that's what it takes to get a strong public option, then go for it. Let the wing-nut states deny their citizens the opportunity to get a affordable health insurance plan, and sit back and see what happens.
Sure, I live in bat shit crazy-land. My employer sponsored plan has sucked ass the last two years.. and 80/20 plan with a $1500 deductable. One of the benefits of having been bought out by an even bigger mega-corp last year is that we get to buy in on their plan. I'm back on a decent PPO, with a $500 deductable. It's not super awesome, but it's not bad and only about 5 bucks a month more than my old shitty insurance.
I want to see what happens when all the blue states have the option of the public plan, and the nutzoid states refuse to allow their citizens to participate. That'll be awesome.
... well, except for the people who are actually harmed by it.
