Um.. NO

This morning, national Republicans blasted out a new fundraising email, signed by none other than Joe "you lie" Wilson. To be expected, perhaps. But now the plot has thickened: Dems have just gone out with their own email that also raises money off Joe Wilson — by pointing to the fact that Republicans are raising money off him. Got that?

No more money from me or John.. not for the Democrats.. not for the Human Rights Campaign.. nothing.. zero.. nadda.. zip. That reminds me, that I need to get off the HRC mailing list. It's disturbing in its bad taste the way they're always asking for money when they're nothing but a failure of an organization. They exist only to employ themselves in jobs that never actually produce anything. They're beneath contempt.

The only time it ever makes sense to "donate" to a political cause is when you get guarantees from the politicians that you are buying their votes, and will reap a return on your investment. That requires a very large "donation" though. Anything else is just throwing good money after bad.

I'm curious to see how the fund raising goes for the next election cycle. I suspect that there are more than a few people like me who have finally figured out how the process works, and refuse to contribute toward it. It really doesn't make much difference to me who wins, which is a rather liberating thing.

I also refuse to contribute any money to any political blogs either. I did once for John Aravosis at Americablog. That had zero effect on any policy related to gay issues. It did, however, add my small part to Aravosis not having to get a real, productive job that actually contributes something to society.

You know.. the only time I've ever seen money actually make a difference is when John does his usual Christmas "secret Santa" thing. He buys gifts anonymously for a family that doesn't have much of their own. Last year he bought a bunch of stuff for the kids of one of his employees, without the employee ever knowing where it came from... with no expectation for anything in return, except maybe some karma. The kids would have had nothing otherwise.

He's also contributed a bunch to a half-way house for women, recently released from prison. That's also made a measurable difference.

Fuck Barack Obama, and fuck politics.
