That corporations drive the outcome of the political process is so normalized for Washington culture that they no longer even realize it looks bad to most people, which is what explains the amazing spectacle this week of Sen. Tom Carper angrily demanding right out in the open that the White House's once-secret, sleazy deal with Pharma -- whereby the administration agreed to forgo bulk negotiations for lower drug prices in exchange for that industry's commitment to spend tens of millions of dollars to advertise for the President's health care reform efforts -- be honored. That's the central fact that transcends conventional left/right dramas: the same narrow corporate interests dictate political outcomes for their own benefit regardless of which party wins.
I have a great deal of respect for Greenwald's tenacity. The fact is, though, that he's pissing against the wind. What he's doing is not going to matter in the big picture, but I hope he's making a bunch of money doing it, because making a bunch of money for yourself is really all that matters.
It seems to me that the way these things work is far more macro than micro. The viral type stuff can take hold, and the Obama's of the world are careful to avoid that happening, but while what Glenn is doing is most admirable, it's none the less futile.
I suppose quite a bit of my disdain for President Obama is a result of being pissed at myself for ever buying into it in the first place... and I did.. hook, line and sinker. I got on his email list the first time I gave him money, and I did several times after that when they asked for more. I was so pissed off at the way the Republicans had fucked everything up that I thought I could just back this new guy who was different.. who would shake things up.. not knowing that he has been paid for by the same assholes as everyone else.
That's never going to change. You will never get the opportunity to vote for anyone who will not fuck you in the end, because it's all controlled by the same fuckers that must hold you down.
I know.. crazy conspiracy sounding crap, right? Ya ya... but it's true... and my attention has turned to the fascination of watching the other left wing biggies figure that out too.. and realize we were all played for suckers.
What does Kos have to say? How about Duncan Black? How about Digby, or John Aravosis? They all sort of keep toting the company line, because they have to in order to make money.. but you can see that every one is being crushed by the reality that what we thought we were getting turned out to be more of the same. That's why Andrew Sullivan loves Obama. Sullivan makes his living off the culture that Obama represents, so you'll never see Sullivan advocating for anything but the "center". That how he makes the money to buy his pot, and keep his boyfriend in line.
The big lefty bloggers had a certain amount of credibility when there was no money in it for them. Now it's big bucks, and they'll keep pushing the same bullshit over and over because they get paid for it. They did what I told you to do. They look out for themselves and cash the checks, and for them, it means repeating the same bullshit that's been said for years before Obama even ran for President. They will keep doing it because that's their profession now. They are professional left wingers, and just like Limbaugh and Beck, they'll never cash in their kids tution for any real credibility.. nor should they. This is Darwin's Country, and the smart hippies have figured out how to sell out.
We got what we wanted. We got a Democrat in the white house, a huge majority in the house, and 60 seats in the Senate. What does that get you? That gets you fucked by the same interests that control the Republican party. It's all the same.
Frankly.. I'd rather go back to a Republican control of the the white house and Congress. It's much more fun to bitch at the party in the majority that you despise, rather than the one you voted for.
