I watched a bit of the Alito hearings. He's a very dry legal geek, which isn't so bad in itself, but what really struck me is how silly the Senators are. I wouldn't vote to approve him, but the Senate very likely will. Not a good thing, but that's what we get when the idiots voted chimpy into office.
In other news.. half the American public is, apparently, really fucking retarded.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Though Americans are growing more skeptical of the White House record on civil liberties, the nation is divided over whether the Bush administration should use wiretaps without first obtaining a warrant, a recent poll shows. Those are the results you get when the media and the Republican party create the "culture of fear". But, I suspect that if you asked people if they thought the government should be able to wire tap them without a warrant, they would say no. Because most people have no real logical thinking skills, they don't see the connection, and just think that Chimpy wants to protect us from the bad people.
A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll of 1,003 adults found that 50 percent of those polled believe it's OK to forgo warrants when ordering electronic surveillance of people suspected of having ties to terrorists abroad.
Another 46 percent said the policy is wrong, and 4 percent said they had no opinion.
Better news is...
SAN FRANCISCO (Court TV) — The debate over the execution of Stanley "Tookie" Williams may have subsided, but for Californians a period of intense soul-searching over the death penalty may just be starting. It says a lot about the human condition that it takes executing a man to get you to think about whether you want to execute people or not. Again, that says a lot about how fucking stupid Americans are.
A month after the Crips founder was executed by lethal injection, state lawmakers are scheduled to begin hearings Tuesday on a bill which would place a moratorium on all executions until Jan. 1, 2009.
The debate comes on the heels of the New Jersey legislature's approval of a similar moratorium Monday.
As I've said time after time, legally killing a person is not something that should be based on emotion. After all, revenge is an emotion, right? Laws are built on logic, and I can, and have, listed a litany of reasons why the death penalty is wrong. Even having the argument now is silly because there is no defensible pro-death penalty position.
In New Jersey, they are reviewing capital punishment because of it's financial issues. It costs a hell of a lot more to execute somebody than it does to lock them up until they die. That's a clever way of approaching it. If they tried to approach it from the moral position, they wouldn't get nearly as far in public opinion.
Appeal to an American's morals, and you'll get laughed at. Appeal to his wallet, and you're golden. That's because, and everyone say it with me.. American's are really fucking stupid people. YaY...
Sensing a trend here?
I love arguing with pro-death penalty people because they make the most absurd arguments, and I love twisting them with questions. But, in the end, the trend is fewer and fewer executions, with the natural evolution being the abolishment of that most heinous practice... except in Texas, because these red-neck hill billy assholes will secede from the Union to protect their right to kill people.
Texas really is a world unto itself.. filled with hate mongering, violent, stupid fucking Jebus worshiping freaks. You can literally smell the disdain they have for educated, bright, talented, creative, liberal thinking Americans.
Anyway.. just remember.. intolerance of intolerance is just self defense.. so when somebody feels like saying "you hate as much as those who you say hate you", I only do it because they externalize their wackiness. I just want them to torture their own families.. and leave the rest of us the hell alone..
Oh... and I'll just relate a story that happened this past week.. It's a good demonstration..
My friend John volunteers for a dog rescue organization. They foster and place cocker spaniels in new homes. So, a woman that recently received a dog from this group had her dog perform an escape act and get loose. A neighbor called the rescue group because of the tag on the dog, and the dog was taken by the group. When the dog owner called the group to recover the dog, the volunteer denied they had the dog. The volunteer is a bat shit crazy Christian Jesus freak. She out and out lied to the woman that they had the dog...
The dog owner found out from her neighbor that the rescue group definitely had the dog, she got really pissed and got an attorney and called the newspaper. The story ended up on the front page of the city section, and it wasn't pretty. The rescue group ended up returning the dog, and the BSC volunteer included some dog food with a note reading "dog is god spelled backwards. God is watching you." LOL
The freak couldn't leave well enough alone.. so it turned into this huge drama. The dog owner is black.. and the blacks in the city went insane, and naturally turned it into a race thing.. because blacks like to do the reverse discrimination thing. They think that the reason any bad thing happens to a black person is because the person is black..
In this case.. the bad thing happened not because the owner is black, but because the person at the volunteer group that handled the situation is a Jesus freak, and yes we all know that Jesus freaks are mentally disturbed liars. The first thing out of this woman's mouth was a fucking lie, right off the bat.
It's unfortunate her mind is so warped that way, but it's so typical of Texas. They always claim to be good Christians, but in reality, they are just hate filled bitches whose first priority is to externalize their freakiness, even before they consider what Christianity is supposed to represent.
Just thought I'd share a slice of real life Texas Christian freak drama...
and while I'm at it. There's a new show called "The Book of Daniel". It's like Six Feet Under, but instead of it centering around a family that owns a funeral home, it centers around an Episcopal Priest's family. It's really great. Every time he pops another vicodin, Jesus appears and speaks to him.. and one of his sons is gay, and the other is Chinese, and a daughter that is exactly like Clair from Six Feet.
The show has the Jebus freaks up in arms, which of course is the litmus test that will tell you if it's good or not. What must be the most disturbing thing to the BSC's is that this priest loves his kids regardless, and actually encourages them to pursue their interests. All good Christian's know that the priest is supposed to mentally torture his gay son, and get him into treatment that will destroy his will. He should beat his wife because she has martinis for lunch. He should send his daughter off to a nunnery because she got busted by the cops for selling pot, and his Chinese son should be castrated because he actually had the nerve to fuck another minister's daughter.
I mean, it's not good family entertainment unless you abuse your kids.. right?
