The Supreme Court, with Chief Justice John Roberts dissenting, upheld Oregon's one-of-a-kind physician-assisted suicide law Tuesday, rejecting a Bush administration attempt to punish doctors who help terminally ill patients die.The three dissenting justices were Roberts, Thomas, and Scalia. We know Roberts is a bat-shit crazy as fuck fundamentalist now, eh?
Justices, on a 6-3 vote, said the 1997 Oregon law used to end the lives of more than 200 seriously ill people trumped federal authority to regulate doctors.
That means the administration improperly tried to use a federal drug law to prosecute Oregon doctors who prescribe overdoses. Then-Attorney General John Ashcroft vowed to do that in 2001, saying that doctor-assisted suicide is not a "legitimate medical purpose."
The central issue is a persons right to their own body. If you are suffering with a terminal illness, the religious freaks insist that you have no right to determine when you are ready to die. You cannot ask a physician to help you end your suffering as painlessly as possible. They want you gasping for every last breath until the bitter end.
Quite simply, they want the state to control your body and not you. Since they are quite convinced they will control the government, the extension is that they will control you. You know what? They're right.
Which way do you think Alito would have gone on that one?
When I rail on Christians, I'm not doing it out of some weird spite, nor am I being overly alarmist. I am telling you right now that they are coming after us all in a big way, and we simply let them do it.
Well.. not me.. fuck them..
