Liberal Bias?

If you have an interest in bias at Universities, Michael Bérubé has a nice piece here.

Is there a liberal bias at Universities? Yes and no. I spent a lot of time in classes, and as it was mostly science/math/engineering and so on, so there really wasn't much in the way of political debate. Heck, I went to school before right wing nuts became the mainstream media, so aside from Anita Bryant, you didn't hear much from the right.

But clearly there is a certain liberal bias, and you'd have to be a fool to deny it. It's pretty simple actually. If you look at the studies, liberals tend to be more intelligent and educated, and when you look at a university faculty, what do you see? Intelligent and educated staff.

College professors tend to be accomplished professionals who are very happy with who they are. That's how most liberals are. As I've pointed out, time and again, being a conservative takes a certain amount of self loathing, which you typically don't find in university.

The simple goal of a university is a liberal one. They don't set out to fill your head with facts. They set out to teach you to think and reason. Those are not conservative principals. They are liberal principals.. period.
