Spies 'R Us

Chimpy can't catch a break, eh? Seems the NY Times finally published the story about Bush signing an executive order, authorizing wire taps without a court order. They had been sitting on the story for something like a year.

On it's face, that appears to be a violation of the 4th amendment, and quite illegal. I'm not a constitutional lawyer, so I have no idea. But, what is rather amusing is that I looked to see what our favorite freeper had to say about the issue, and he simply posted an executive order from Clinton, authorizing searches and seizures without warrant. Link to the order, here:

A retort did not come immediately to mind. I thought, why not see what people at Eschaton think, so I posted the question in this thread: The response was overwhelming.. from liberals that thought I was trolling, who subsequently told me to fuck off and die, and all sorts of other unpleasant things..

I have my own moments of being condescending and so on, but at least I know how to focus my tirades. Those people are simply programmed to flame in exactly the same way the freaks at the Free Republic do, except from the opposite side of the political spectrum.

Certainly they do nothing for the Democratic or liberal cause. I suppose when the right talks about tin foil hat moonbats, that's what they are referring to.

In any case, I don't know if Bush's domestic spying program is legal or not. I suspect it's not. Regardless, it does seem quite a "big brother" thing to do.

** update **

I received a number of emails this afternoon as a result of that thread at Eschaton. Most were along the lines of

sorry you got flamed and hope you bothered to read my (somewhat)
more reasoned response.

There are a number of thoughtful and reasonable people that read Eschaton, and any number of other left wing blogs. I had just thought that "liberals" were.. how do I put this..

Lets just say that the right wing did not corner the market on crazy people.
