The Cat in the Hat

Okay.. so I've got this thing about the priest drag. I find it highly amusing.. but I wonder, really, what is the deal with the hat?

Are the Catholic outfits like military ranks, where you have to be a certain rank before you can get the pointy hat?

What I really want to know is what goes through a man's mind when he puts on a two foot tall hat the very first time.. knowing he's about to walk out in front of a bunch of other people.. basically wearing a dress, and as Truman Capote said a "purse on fire"?

Does he do it in front of a mirror first so he can see what he looks like? Does he think "Oh sweet Jebus, I can't believe I have to wear this thing", or is he thinking "this goes really well with my lace panties"?
