Biden

The internets is telling me that Sen. Joe Biden is the pick. I really was hoping for Jim Webb, while thinking it would end up Clinton... and I rather cringe at Biden.

I guess Biden is a safe pick.. lots of experience.. and best of all.. he's an old white dude.. so everyone can feel safe that the young black dude isn't going to get too out of control. Plus.. he's dull enough that he won't give McCain much ammo for character attacks..

My issue with Biden is that he's overly-entrenched in Washington (not unlike McCain), and isn't representative of what most progressives see as the future of the party. He's overly passive when taking on the right wing, instead of embracing liberal politics. He's dull.. and we need more excitement.

I can see the logic in picking him. Obama is the personality.. the charisma.. the face of a new direction.. and Biden is a security blanket to the soccer moms and older Americans. Obama has sewn up young Americans, so there was no need for him to get somebody like himself.

And, of course, the biggest issue.. the biggest problem.. is Biden running in 2016. Good Gorak that'll suck.. but hey.. nobody seems to give a flying fuck who McCain picks.. so I guess we're sitting in a good position.

And besides.. Biden doesn't *cough* measure up *cough* to Dick Cheney.

....

This might just light a fire under Biden's ass.. and he might turn into a liberal pit bull and kick serious ass. Here's hoping..

/update

John King on CNN just reported (and I'm paraphrasing), "two sources have confirmed that Barack Obama has selected Joe Biden. I cannot reveal the identity of these source because they were not supposed to reveal this information."

This is rather disturbing if it was indeed not an intentional leak. The implication is that Obama has at least two very high level staffers that cannot be trusted with confidential information.

...

Remember in 2000, when George Bush ran for president as a "compassionate conservative"? He disguised his true political ambitions very well. After he was elected, he stormed off to the extreme right... resulting in his becoming the Worst President in History, with the lowest approval ratings ever.. and basically fucking up every single thing he touched.

Hopefully, when Obama is elected, he shifts dramatically to the left.. and is the polar opposite of George Bush.

Kos sez;

Brilliant! We've got a lot of campaign a head of us, but this has been the Obama campaign's finest operation thus far.
It reminds me of the beta test for a new high profile video game. Thousands and thousands of gamers hang on every word.. waiting for a big announcement.

It's been a feeding frenzy of drama over the VP pick. The text message notification was awesome, even if the cat got out of the bag early.

The only thing people have talked about this week is, how many houses does John McCain have (I think it's 12, with a staff that costs $275,000 a year).. and the VP pick. I don't think anybody has heard anything from McCain.. and next week, we have the Dem convention..

Well and truly.. not many people give a flying fuck who McCain picks.. and nobody is going to stay up late to find out. I just hope to Gorak that it's Mitt Romney. That would be so awesome.

I wonder if the Doug Gibbs Loon Brigade considers Mormons as "real Christians". Not many know that Romney's grandfather fled the United States and settled in Mexico so that he could have a bunch of wives. Most Americans have no idea how uniquely insane Mormons really are... (I'll be God of my own planet!!!1)

It'll be so awesome.
